Greenhill Gardens threat from Neighbourhood Plan

The proposed Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan identifies areas for building new houses. it also identifies Local Green Spaces and areas that need to be given special protection.

In the list of 49 local green spaces in Weymouth, GREENHILL GARDENS IS MISSING. This means that the gardens are not protected by the national policy for Green Belts and can be removed from the local planning policies protecting it from development.

Why does this matter?  If the Council decide that it costs too much, it makes it easier to stop the repairs and maintenance. 18 years ago this was the case, and the Council tried to sell off part of the gardens to developers.   With significant costs expected to resolve land subsidence issues, we need the protection of being a recognised Local Green Space.

Why Now?  This Neighbourhood Plan, once made, will form part of the statutory development plan for Weymouth through to 2038. This is the last chance to make changes before the final version is adopted.
